Lukman Sapar Math Olympiad 4th - 5th Elementary Math Olympiad Club is designed for 4th and 5th grade students with advanced mathematical skills who seek challenge in math. The main goal of the Elementary Math Olympiad Club is to explore math beyond the classroom curriculum, and to prepare for math contests such as Math League, Math Stars, etc. At meetings, students are given problems from past competitions to solve and discuss. This develops students’ problem solving techniques and helps students gain mathematical insight. Monday S110
Robyn Zalec Science Olympiad 9th - 10th The goal of science Olympiad is to bring science to life, to show how science works, and to emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts. Students will be working on individual and group based teams. These teams will concentrate on a specific theme in science, such as crime scene detectives or Battery Buggy. Students on these teams will be working with a coach in order to prepare for academic competitions as well as building events. Each student will be required to complete one academic event. Teams will be chosen based on student interest and commitment. These teams will be competing at a regional, state, and national level. Monday Tue/Thur
April Harris Yearbook 5th-9th Students will learn to develop layouts, and use written descriptions and photos for the annual yearbook. Monday
Misty Thomas Teacher Assistant 5th - 8th Students will be trained to help teachers with various tasks such as making copies, cutting, putting up bulletin boards, filing, cleaning, etc. Students have to have zero office referrals and no more than 3 citations per quarter, students will receive prizes based on the assigned teacher's remarks about that student and his/her performance as a helper. Rebecca Parker Student Council 6th - 10th This club is all about planning and organizing school events that help encourage school spirit throughout the year. We will be planning Spirit Week, Student-Teacher Contests, Middle & High School Dance, Pep Rally(s), Talent Show, and much more. This club will also show the students how to lead in their school. We will have student elections for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The students will have chances to learn how to volunteer as well. We will have bake sales, doughnut sales, donation drives, tutoring helpers, reading buddies and much more. If you like to lead, this is the place that you will succeed. Monday
Melissa Newton Newspaper 6th - 10th Students will learn the art of writing, editing, and publishing their very own school newspaper. We will have monthly newspapers to sell to students and teachers. We will work on editorial writing, creative writing, sports/club articles, interviews, surveys, comics/artwork, important and encouraging news, and much more. Students will also have a chance to tour our very own local News-n-Record office. Students will learn to fundraise through selling ads to local companies and businesses. Students will have a chance to interview teachers, attend sports events, and much more to report in our school paper Monday Tue/Thur
Kay Neal Drama I K - 2nd This is an integrated club that aims to provide an introduction to drama, self expression and acting skills for children grades K-2. It allows the children to develop their acting skills through performing with a group. The group will be encouraged to express themselves in a fun, safe and stimulating environment which will help their development. The club will allow the children to grow in confidence each week, improving on speech, body language and social skills. Monday
James McElroy Athletic Club 3rd-5th co-ed We will play a wide variety of games and sports throughout the year. Capture-the-flag, kickball, whiffle ball, flag tag, & 4 corners, to name a few. This club should keep the student active while learning sportsmanship and teamwork. Monday
Michelle King Jr. FLL 1st - 3rd Jr.FLL is a child-centered program that encourages young students to learn the value of teamwork and to respect everyone’s ideas and contributions to the team. The Jr.FLL values are about appreciating our differences and learning what those differences add to our lives. Jr. FLL is about the children having fun and becoming excited about science and technology.In the Jr.FLL program, the kids do the work. This gives them opportunity to learn and grow. They do the research, problem solving and building. Coaches and adult volunteers are there to help and to guide. Monday
Robin Knapp Gardening 3rd - 8th Students will identify trees/shrubs on the TMSA campus with both their common and Latin names and label accordingly. They will help create a vegetable garden and beautify the campus with seasonal plantings. In addition, students will maintain plants in the lobby and common rooms around the building. The basics of gardening (life cycles, companion plantings, maintenance) will be explored. Monday Tues/Thur
Azem Kaplan Future City 6th - 8th An educational engineering club that works with SimCity computer programs to develop/create their own cities. This group will compete in regional and state competitions with their finished projects. Teams will consist of a limited number of students who will be selected from among those that sign up for the club. Monday/Thursday
Nicolina Muscalu Aviation Grades: Aviation Club is open for students that attended Aviation Club last year (Aviation Club I). New students may join the club(3rd-5th grade level) if there are available seats The Aviation Club II is intended for students that already develop their interest for Aviation. The purpose of this Club is to provide educational opportunities and resources for students interested in aviation. Some club activities might include flight-simulator use, visits to local and regional airports, visit from professionals in the aviation industry, and trips to national aviation museums, such as the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Charles Douglas Boys Running Club 4th - 10th This club involves walking, running, cross-training with the opportunity to participate in a 5k (3.1 miles) race in the Guilford County area. Participants should be prepared to train approximately 2 additional days per week at home. Friday Tues/Thur
Anzhelika Surratt Band 6th-10th Students will learn the basic fundamentals of playing an instrument. They must provide their own instrument. Monday
Rebecca Hash Odessy of the Mind 6th - 10th This is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Kim Yavuz Random Acts of Kindness 6th - 10th This club will be doing community service activities (Toys for Tots, writing to to senior citizens, etc.).There will be meetings with a group of college students from Wake Forest University who belong to a club there with the same name and those students will come and help us plan our year of activities with the opportunity to do activities together. Cagri Kahraman Turkish Olympiad I 6th - 8th Turkish Olympiad has been done every year in Turkey since 2003 and more than 114 countries participating to this organization. This club’s goal is to prepare our students for Turkish Olympiad. Only Turkish class students can take this club. Monday Tuesday
Amani Saeed Puzzle Club K-2 Puzzles help children learn to solve problems. By trying several ways to fit a puzzle piece in place, they are learning the value of flexible thinking, and of persistence. Their fine motor skills are sharpened by manipulating the pieces and fitting them in their proper space. Putting together a puzzle helps children actively practice important skills such as inference, deductive reasoning, and the notion that whole objects are generally made up of parts. Monday

Paul Wright We the People 6th-8th The primary goal of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is to promote civic competence and responsibility among the nation’s upper elementary and secondary students. Participants hold a simulated congressional hearing as the culminating activity for the We the People program. The entire class, working in cooperative teams, prepares and presents statements before a panel of community representatives who act as congressional committee members. Students then answer questions posed by the committee members. Tuesday Mon/Thur
Adem Kaya Wrestling Club 6th-10th

This club is designed to teach wrestlers fundamental of wrestling if needed at first, and then advance level of wrestling skills that are needed for competition. For that reason, We are planing to form a official middle school wrestling team this year and prepare them for dual team and individual wrestling tournament in 2011-2012 school year. Students in our middle school are highly encouraged to sign up for the club.

We will also discuss how to look and apply for scholarships and financial aid. We will use some career testing tools so that students can explore different career and college major opportunities available. Tuesday

Fritzi Bullins-Jones Scrabble 6th-8th Learn the game of scrabble, word building skills, strategy, and have fun with your fellow TMSA students. We'll play Scrabble each week focusing on different aspects of the game. Tuesday
James McElroy Golf This club is for students that have some golf experience. We will be preparing students to participate on the TMSA Golf Team in the near future. We will practice atForest Oaks Country Club and taught by a teaching golf professional. Students must supply their own transportation and equipment. There is a small fee. We will

Lisa Murray Art Club II 7th-10th Students will examine an artist's work, then discuss characteristics for his/her art style. They will then create artwork that reflects the featured artist's technique. May involve gallery visits depending on parent participation. Friday
