A long time Triad Math and Science Academy supporter,
State Representative Maggie Jeffus, honored TMSA with her presence on October 31, 2011. TMSA Community was privileged to host Representative Jeffus in previous years and received her encouraging support for the successful growth of TMSA Community.
The entire community welcomed Representative Jeffus. Representative Jeffus has seen TMSA's initial facility and was excited to see the state of the art, STEM education oriented TMSA facility in action. Mr. Orak, the TMSA Principal, had the opportunity to share some of the wonderful accomplishments that TMSA has made over the past few years including TMSA's academic, STEM education, facility and financial growth without bringing any additional burden on the tax payers. TMSA did not receive any capital funding for the construction of its brand new facility. It just utilized its operating funds wisely and became one of the very few charter schools in the state that was able to put together a brand new school facility in its third year of operation.
Representative Jeffus had the opportunity to see all of our facilities that are now completed as well as visit some of the classrooms. She was able to speak to our 9th grade social studies class and encouraged the students to check into some of the internship programs that the state government offers so that they could learn first-hand how the state government operates. High school history teacher, Christopher Jessup stated, “I am pleased that we had Representative Jeffus with us today. It is obvious that our elected officials are on the right track and they also would like to offer more choices via lifting the cap on charter schools." he added. As a former educator, Representative Jeffus believes that a child’s education is very important. She stated, “I am very impressed to see how well the students are doing and how focused they are.” She was also able to visit one of our middle school science classes and observed the students performing a science experiment. “It is amazing to see how engaged the students are in their work.” stated Representative Jeffus.
During the Representative’s visit she was able to speak with parents and was pleased to see how involved the parents were here at TMSA. There were parents helping in classrooms, at lunch and working on our International Night which will be on November 10th. Parents Elvedina Topcic and Stephanie Adamson both stated, “We are honored that Representative Jeffus came to visit and thankful that she is supporting the charter schools and our children’s education.”
